Recently  granted the status of Unesco  world heritage city, Nice can be proud. We share our joy with the millions of affectionados who visit Nice every year as tourists.

Quite naturally, our mixlogists follow suit in the search of epicurean harmonies for our pleasure. And this is fertile ground as alcohol is an extraordinary vehicle for perfumes, both olfactory and also taste. Good alcohols capture the scent of their substance (fruits, herbs, grains) at harvest, while the flavors are at their maximum and restore them at degustation. This story is part of a civilizational passion with its divinities who have inhabited us for 4000 years. Antiquity makes us vibrate to the rhythm of its bacchanals. And even Christ commands us to raise our cups in his memory.

I headed for Place Garibaldi. Six o’clock sounded on the town bells. The mercury reversed its course to show downward and the sun played with its long shadows cast on the ground. I had one idea in mind, and one that was gaining momentum, to sit on one of the terraces of our excellent cafes and watch the world go by. With my first experience, this idea guided me like a beacon towards Campo Caffé. This address is one of the city’s well-kept secrets. The clientele of insiders, mainly from Nice, is a guarantee of quality. Antoine, the barista is well versed in the art of cocktails and has honored the reputation of the house. As I pointed out to you, this was a return visit, my initiatory visit having been enlightened by a Soleia Sour who by his excellence left me speechless. This time I ordered a Nice Spritz made from Soleia.

This old bistro nestled under the arcades has a pleasant terrace with tables in the sun and shade. Comfortably seated, I contemplated Place Garibaldi in the evening sun. Expectation is filled with wandering thoughts. A moment of relaxation.

And then my drink arrived. The appearance is elegant without any fuss. The color, a delicate orange-green with reflections of the sun in the ice cubes, a slice of orange throws a touch of color on the board. And the consecration…. freshness, a subtle taste of flavors that can be distinguished individually and which resonate together like a symphony punctuated by bubbles of sparkling water. Not a wrong note. A Spritz with extra soul. Well done Antoine and to the entire Campo Caffé team!

Le Club Nautique de Nice vous accueille sans prétention avec une élégance naturelle old school. A l’entrée, des veilles skiffs en bois échoués au pied de l’escalier nous dresse le ton. Puis l’escalier nous mène dans les étages auquel le bar restaurant se trouve au deuxième. Le bar de ce club house a des parois en bois vernis ornées des drapeaux de signalisation maritime et des ornements de style hétéroclite, héritage des différentes époques de sa longue traversée. La salle du restaurant lumineuse se trouve bordée de terrasses avec tables avec vue sur le port de Nice, la plage des Bains Militaires et la fameuse Réserve avec son Plongeoir emblématique.

Bien que vous ne les trouverez pas sur la carte, les initiés savent que les cocktails élaborés par la barista, Jade, font partie des meilleurs de Nice. A moins de rester pour manger (une très bonne idée), nous vous conseillons d’arriver tôt vers 18h30 maxi pour l’apéro. De bouche à oreille, Deep Throat a eu connaissance du «Jade», un cocktail créé pour la maison par Jade en personne. Sa curiosité piquée, le choix s’imposait. Et puis, la commande passée, il s’est laissé aller à rêverie propre à l’expectative. Le suspens délicieux a été accentué par l’ambiance du club house et la beauté de la vue sur la mer ensoleillée. Et puis, les verres sont arrivés, c’est le moment venu. Le verre est grand. Et le goût ….. merveilleux. Le basilique parfume, porté par le gin en toile de fond et accentué par le sucre, le tout ponctué par la fraicheur des bulles d’eau gazeuse. En un mot, insolite. Bravissimo ! Ce lieu est un poème !

Ce soir nous emmène dans une vénérable institution de la gastronomie niçoise, Casa Becchio. Après avoir créé le buzz dans le quartier de Libération avec l’Altra Casa les voilà, Giorgio et Yoyo à animer le centre ville tout près de la Place Massena en plein cœur de Nice. On retrouve tout, la bonne ambiance et le niveau d’excellence épicurienne.  Ici tout est bon, et je pèse mes mots. Du simple café expresso en passant par la carte de mets, l’épicerie et bien sur les cocktails. L’excellence fait parti de l’ADN de cette maison. La bonne nouvelle est que le fils, Yoyo a enfilé le costume de chef d’orchestre du bar / restaurant et nous ne sommes pas déçu. De la carte de cocktails, notre ami Deep Throat s’est aventuré à déguster un Basil Smash. Une serveuse charmante s’est occupée de prendre notre commande et par la suite l’attente a été délicieuse. Là en terrasse à baigner dans la douceur de cette soirée d’été, sous le ciel de Nice, entre chien et lupo, et c’est le cas de le dire car Giorgio Becchio et connu comme le lupo bianco dans tout Nice pour son épicerie fine. Et là, la serveuse revienne et pose les verres sur la table avec grâce et élégance. Le moment de la vérité. Il est difficile à rendre justice donc on va économiser les superlatifs. La fraicheur du basilique est portée par la vodka qui se trouve en toile de fond avec les bulles d’eau gazeuse pour accentuer la qualité gustative et désaltérant. Un subtil mélange de parfums tout en délicatesse. Un cocktail de la première division !

Les assiettes valent quelques mots, car ici, ça va crescendo. Nous avons particulièrement aimé la Pinsa Blanche, à la crème truffée, cœur d’artichaut, roquette et jambon cru. On la sent arriver avant de la voir. On avait l’impression de compléter notre instruction olfactive. Délicieux ! Encore une fois la serveuse met en scène à la perfection. Evidement, nous avons pris un dessert, à ba oui, nous résistons à tout sauf à la tentation!

Opposit La Ponchettes beach, La Movida, located in one of the old fishermen’s houses, on 2 floors with generous terraces overlooking the sea. Here the atmosphere is of relaxed sophistication of a house that is sure of its purpose.  The service is impeccable and the waiters are cool and efficient. The menu proposes  tapas and salads with a Mexican overture as well as a selection of juices and non-alcoholic cocktails that are good for your body. Everything is good and we pass as its letters of nobility can be found on the cocktail menu. You will find the classics which are excellent. The summer 2021 news section features cocktails with a Hellenic influence with ouzo  and unusual ingredients like rose and olive liqueur. Our epicurean Deep throat, constantly on the lookout for new sensations, decided on a Yamas, a cocktail based on ouzo, rose water, grapefruit, lemon and sparkling water. And then the moment of truth, and there, facing the sea…. he brought the glass to his lips … ..silence…. an explosion of flavours bewitched him. He was invaded by the ultimate inner peace of pleasure inherent to an event  surpassing all expectations. The subtlety of a perfect mix. Each ingredient seemed to highlight the others. The ouzo, the rose, the grapefruit, the lemon perfectly balenced … we distinguish them all individually as well as the ensemble which comes together in a symphony of flavors. Tonight, we visit an address we particularly like, Hotêl Amour in Nice. With the same proprietor as the Hôtel Amour in Paris, it is off the tourist trails, located in the writers’ quarter at the bottom of Avenue Gambetta, this address is a hidden gem. A meeting of taste where one does not find the glitz of the usual display of wealth of luxury hotels, but, much more, a personal touch! And not just any. You can already feel it at the sight of the Candy Pink facade and its terrace with chairs arranged with cousins. Passed the door, you enter a world of elegance perfectly paired with this Art Deco district of Nice. From the foyer, you walk towards a plunging view of the bar with its immence mirrors, a bookcase adorned with paperback books and its displays of bottles that seem to have been ordered in 1920. Not one false note, God is in the detail!

The bar is a haven of peace. A la carte, mezzes with Hellenic influences to accompany your cocktail. The barista, Nabil (a saint) creates cocktails with the objective of revealing the escence of the ingredients without any domination by the alcohol. We tasted the Romeo and the Juliet. In Romeo, we find gin, basil, banana liqueur, cucumber, lime, ginger beer and chocolate bitters, all douced with sparkling water. When the waitress placed the glasses on the table (with gentl elegance), our friend Deep Throat was taken with melancholy at the sight of so much perfection, torn between desires to bathe in the contemplation of aesthetics and irresistible and inevitable desire to bring the promise to the lips and what extasy. He resisted for long minutes in divine expectation. And then, the moment of truth, consumation,… freshness… flavors, all are present, carried by the bubbles for, does it seem to irrigate the body and the head with pleasure. Unforgettable !

On the roof of the hotel is a terrace with a 360 ° view of the city, the hills and the sea. These tables are reserved for the restaurant, are popular, so reserve in advance.
